Off on our mini-tour. Short cycle from Newcastle Station out to North Shields to get the ferry to Ijmuiden. Not too difficult to navigate, as we were roughly following the river, but still a section of cycle path closed with no warning and very poor signposting of the diversion. I suppose I should be grateful that at least there were some signs, as often there is nothing at all.

The Weather has been kind: minimal wind and even some sunshine! For those of us used to the Arran ferry, this one is large. Multiple restaurants and bars, all ready to take money in Sterling or Euros, and several decks of cabins. This will be my first night at sea for a very long time.

Tomorrow we have another short cycle (c.17 miles) to Amsterdam.  Just for once, I don’t think I have overpacked. Wonder what I have forgotten…
